Circa 750<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0seax<\/strong>, or\u00a0sax<\/strong>, was universal in\u00a0Northern Europe<\/strong>. Carried and used by the\u00a0Saxons<\/strong>,\u00a0Angles<\/strong>,\u00a0Vikings<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0German tribes<\/strong>, its use probably dated before the fall of Rome and continued on into the early Middle Ages. From small knives with 3-4 inch blades to actual swords with blades of 27-28 inches and always single-edged, the profile of the seax varied a great deal. The original version of this large knife served from camp work to cutting work, on shipboard and for fighting if a sword or axe was not available.<\/p>\n

Made by Windlass Steelcrafts<\/strong>,\u00a0Steel: 1055 High Carbon<\/strong>, our replica has a brass lobed\u00a0pommel<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0guard<\/strong>. The wood\u00a0grip<\/strong>\u00a0is studded with brass tacks for a very secure and comfortable grip. The\u00a0blade<\/strong>\u00a0is etched on both sides, flat ground.<\/p>\n

The remnants of this Seax can be seen in the British Museum.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Leather\u00a0sheath<\/strong>\u00a0is riveted and laced like the originals and has two thong slots.<\/p>\n
