Introducing the Heritage Series Irish Sword<\/strong> by Windlass<\/strong>! One of our all-time favorites, reissued by Windlass Steelcrafts<\/strong>\u00ae with several upgrades<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

The blade<\/strong> has improved distal taper, making the sword livelier<\/strong> and quicker<\/strong>. The scabbard<\/strong> now has a wooden core<\/strong> underneath the leather exterior<\/strong>. The grip<\/strong> features leather that is dimpled using a historically authentic “wet-wrap<\/em><\/strong>” process, during which fine cord is tightly wrapped around a wet leather grip. When it’s dry, the cord is removed and the leather is left attractively indented and provides improved texture and grip.<\/p>\n

Irish smiths<\/strong> developed one of the most distinctive hilt<\/strong> designs of the medieval<\/strong> period<\/strong>: the \u201cring hilt<\/strong>\u201d, a blend of Norse<\/strong> influences and Gaelic<\/strong> craft traditions<\/strong>. The ring<\/strong> may have held cultural<\/strong> or ceremonial<\/strong> significance<\/strong>, though it could also have been a practical stylistic feature to help balance the blade.<\/p>\n

The unique pommel<\/strong> is comprised of a steel<\/strong> ring<\/strong> with the rounded tang tip extended through it, and the guard<\/strong> is arguably more unique. The ends are gracefully flared<\/strong> and curved<\/strong> and suggest fins or flippers. The blade<\/strong> is deeply fullered<\/strong> to lighten the sword without diminishing its strength.<\/p>\n

This is the quick<\/strong>, powerful<\/strong> sword that enhanced the Irish reputation for being superb fighting men. The leather<\/strong> that covers the grip and scabbard<\/strong> is dyed a very deep green<\/strong> (it looks almost black in dim light).<\/p>\n

The scabbard<\/strong> features a metal<\/strong> chape<\/strong> and throat<\/strong> with tastefully ornate cut-outs.<\/p>\n
